The SIP-4 cable is a type of Self-supporting Insulated Overhead Wire used for low-voltage power distribution. Its name is an acronym for Self-supporting Insulated Polar wire, with '4' denoting its specific design type. A key feature of SIP-4 is that it does not have a separate messenger (load-bearing) wire; all the insulated conductors are self-supporting. The conductors are made of compacted aluminum and insulated with XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene).
Applications
SIP-4 cables are versatile and used for a variety of low-voltage distribution purposes, including:
- Powering end-consumer facilities and residential areas.
- Building lighting power grids.
- Laying on the walls of construction sites.
- Equipping branches from overhead power lines to transformer units.
Unlike other ABC cables that rely on a separate neutral messenger wire for support, SIP-4 relies on the combined strength of all its conductors. This makes installation faster and simpler in some cases.
