This XLPE insulated 3x50+1x25mm² copper cable is a robust and reliable solution for power distribution, specifically designed with three phase conductors and an additional earth conductor to meet various application requirements. Often referred to as 3 cores + 1 earth cable or IEC 60502 3 core and earth cable, it operates at a voltage of 0.6/1000V. Its construction ensures safety and performance, making it ideal for installations where an earth wire is mandated by customer specifications. A key application for this cable is in two-way lighting systems, where the extra conductor facilitates communication between two switches controlling the same light fitting.

Application

The structure of the 3 cores + 1 earth cable is specifically designed for applications where earth wires are required by customer specifications. This cable is frequently referred to as a 3 cores + 1 cable XLPE insulated with a voltage of 0.6/1000V or IEC 60502 3 core and earth cable.

The 3 core plus earth cable features three conductors, each coded with a different color, in addition to the earth conductor. One of the primary applications for this three core and earth lighting cable is in situations requiring two-way lighting, as it provides the necessary additional conductor between two switches that operate the same light fitting.

Standard

This XLPE 3x50+1x25mm² copper cable adheres to the following standards:

  • IEC 60228 Conductors
  • IEC 60502-1 Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages from 1kV () up to 35kV () - Part 1: Cables for rated voltages of 1 kV () and 3 kV ()

Construction

The XLPE 3x50+1x25mm² cable is constructed with the following components:

  1. Conductor: Plain annealed copper, Class 2: stranded conductor
  2. Insulation: Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)
  3. Filler: Non-hygroscopic material
  4. Binder tape: Non-hygroscopic material
  5. Outer sheath: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
