Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) conductors are high-capacity, high-strength stranded conductors used extensively in overhead power transmission and distribution networks. In accordance with GOST 839-80, a Russian national standard, these conductors are engineered to deliver excellent mechanical strength, electrical performance, and reliability across long spans.

Key Features

  • High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Ideal for long span and high-tension lines

  • Corrosion Resistance: Galvanized steel and aluminum offer long service life in harsh environments

  • Excellent Conductivity: Suitable for medium to high voltage transmission

  • Durability: Withstands mechanical stress, wind, and ice loading

  • Versatile Design: Available in multiple steel-aluminum ratios to meet different strength and conductivity needs

Applications

  • Overhead power transmission and distribution lines

  • Long-span rural electrification

  • Messenger wires for supporting other conductors

  • Cross-country or high-tension transmission corridors

Construction

ACSR conductors are composed of a central core of galvanized steel wires surrounded concentrically by one or more layers of aluminum wires. The steel core provides mechanical support, while the outer aluminum strands ensure excellent conductivity and reduced overall weight.

  • Steel Core: Provides high tensile strength for longer span applications

  • Aluminum Strands: Ensure high conductivity and corrosion resistance

  • Stranded Construction: Improves flexibility and ease of installation

Standard Compliance

The product is manufactured in accordance with the GOST 839-80 standard, which outlines:

  • Conductor Types: Covers a range of ACSR types with varying steel core strengths and aluminum configurations

  • Material Requirements: Specifies tensile strength, elongation, and electrical conductivity of steel and aluminum components

  • Dimensions and Tolerances: Sets precise dimensional limits for conductor diameter, layer arrangement, and wire gauge

  • Testing Procedures: Includes mechanical and electrical test protocols to ensure product reliability

International Equivalents:
While GOST 839-80 is a Russian standard, ACSR conductors are also available per ASTM B232, IEC 61089, and BS 215 Part 2.

Typical Designations under GOST 839-80

  • АС (ACSR in Cyrillic): Standard ACSR conductor designation

  • Examples: АС 70/11, АС 95/16, АС 120/19 – where the first number indicates aluminum area (mm²) and the second number indicates steel core area (mm²)
